WHAT IS FORD AUSSIE HOOPS?

Ford Aussie Hoops is Basketball Australia’s premier beginner program designed specifically for children aged 5-10 years.

Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the first time or looking to develop their early skills, Ford Aussie Hoops provides a fun, safe, and inclusive environment where children of all abilities can learn, grow, and fall in love with basketball.

Our program focuses on skill development, building self-esteem, and teaching social cooperation through organised sport—all while ensuring every participant has maximum enjoyment on the court.

Ford Aussie Hoops is perfect for:

  • Children aged 5-10 years of any skill level
  • First-time basketball players looking for a supportive introduction to the sport
  • Young athletes wanting to develop fundamental basketball skills
  • Kids who want to be active, make friends, and have fun in a team environment

No prior basketball experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and have fun!

Ford Aussie Hoops is delivered in three progressive stages, ensuring participants engage in activities and games relevant to their physical and mental capabilities:

  • Stage 1: Introduction to Basketball Children learn basic ball handling, movement skills, and the fundamentals of the game through fun, age-appropriate activities.
  • Stage 2: Skill Development Participants build on foundational skills, developing dribbling, passing, shooting techniques, and basic teamwork concepts.
  • Stage 3: Game Preparation Activities increase in competitiveness as children prepare to transition into local club domestic competitions, applying their skills in structured game situations.

Warragul Basketball Association is proud to deliver Ford Aussie Hoops programs throughout the year. Our sessions are led by experienced and certified coaches who are dedicated to helping young players reach their full potential while ensuring every child enjoys their basketball journey.

Sessions run on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Fridays at Warragul Leisure Centre, Neerim South Basketball Stadium and Bunyip Recreational Reserve across school terms, with registrations opening at the end of each term for the upcoming term.

We recommend children complete at least two terms in our Ford Aussie Hoops program before joining a team in our Junior Domestic Competition, giving them the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a team environment.

Expert Coaching Our programs are delivered by qualified coaches passionate about nurturing young talent and creating positive first experiences in basketball.

Inclusive Community We embrace children of all backgrounds and abilities, creating a welcoming environment where everyone belongs and can succeed.

Skill Development Focus Our carefully designed sessions ensure children not only have fun but also develop essential basketball skills including dribbling, shooting, passing, and teamwork.
